First South Sponsors Pro-Pro Classic for Community Impact

The MLF/MLB Pro-Pro Classic Fishing Tournament has grown into a much-anticipated event for anglers, baseball players, and community supporters alike. First South Farm Credit proudly served as the title sponsor of the Guntersville Pro-Pro Classic for the third consecutive year and celebrated its inaugural involvement in the Lake Charles Pro-Pro Classic.

Now in its fourth year, the Guntersville Pro-Pro Classic combines competitive fishing with meaningful community outreach. For First South, the decision to sponsor the tournament was driven by a combination of shared values and an existing relationship. Daily Thomas, First South Vice President and branch manager, explained First South’s involvement. “Matt Kinzer was the president of the MLF Anglers Association at the time, and he and I had built a relationship spending time together at the events they had,” said Thomas. “He asked me if I would be interested in sponsoring the event in some way three years ago. We already have a relationship with pro angler Chris Lane so it seemed like a good fit.”

For Thomas and the First South team, the Pro-Pro Classic directly aligns with their mission of giving back to the communities they serve. The tournaments support initiatives like local kids’ camps, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, the Rus Lane Foundation, and conservation efforts on Lake Guntersville. As Thomas put it, “The tournament has always been focused on promoting fishing and the outdoors. This aligned well with what we do and who we are trying to reach as potential customers.” By supporting efforts that encourage outdoor recreation and stewardship, First South strengthens its ties to the areas it serves while inspiring the next generation of anglers.

The 2023 Lake Charles Pro-Pro Classic marked a new chapter for the tournament and for First South’s sponsorship. Daily Thomas participated in this leg of the event, while Joseph Clark, First South loan officer in Albertville, represented the team in Guntersville. Reflecting on his experience, Thomas remarked on the sense of community and shared passion for fishing that made the event so memorable.

The Pro-Pro Classic tournament represents much more than a competition—they embody the spirit of giving back, building connections, and celebrating the outdoors. Through their sponsorship, First South Farm Credit has helped to grow the Pro-Pro Classic into a platform that not only promotes competitive fishing but also invests in local communities.

"So at First South, we're a farm credit lender, but land is a big part of what we do. Our team loves the outdoors—hunting, fishing—it all connects with what we finance and the communities we serve. Partnering with Russ's Foundation and supporting this event right in our backyard was a natural fit for us."
